What Are You Saying?
November 17, 2019

“I’m fat.”

“I’m not good enough.”

“I have no confidence.”

“I’ll never be like her.”

“Why would anyone like me?”

“I’m stupid, why can’t I (fill in the blank)?”

“I suck at math.” (I’ll come back to this one!)

I’ve said all of these things to myself and worse. How about you? Are you kind to yourself, or do you allow these types of destructive thoughts in your head? Do you actually say things like this out loud for others to hear? Do you turn these ideas into a joke and laugh it off?

The negative feedback you give yourself can crush your soul and spirit. It can limit your potential and prevent you from being who you are meant to be. It puts self-imposed restrictions on you.

Again, I’ve been guilty of negative self-talk. I still do it occasionally but am more aware of what I say to myself and have gotten better at stopping when I start doing it. I also have some great people around me who call me out when I do it. You need to be aware of how you talk to yourself – that is the first step.

“The negative feedback you give yourself can crush your soul and spirit. It can limit your potential and prevent you from being who you are meant to be.”

So, about that math. I dislike it immensely and it doesn’t come easily to me. I almost didn’t pursue personal training because there was math involved. What I discovered was I just needed the right person to come along to teach me. That person was a 20-year-old, soon to be middle school teacher. He saw my potential and wouldn’t allow me to quit.

Who does that for you? If you don’t have these people in your life, I encourage you to find someone. Someone who sees you for the amazing person you are. Someone who won’t let you quit on yourself.

A quote I saw recently said “If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, don’t say it to yourself.” I think those are really important words to live by. If there is anything I can do to help you on your journey, please reach out to me. 🦋
