Work with Mary

I provide personal training services in the greater Bangor, Orono, and Old Town areas. My focus is on helping women who are just starting their fitness journey as well as women who want to gain strength, confidence, and improve their health.

When we work together, I’ll create a custom, personalized exercise plan to help you reach your specific goals. You’ll learn exactly what you need to make progress, and I’ll be there to support and motivate you. And we’ll also have some fun and laughs along the way!

“Will you yell at me?”

The woman who asked me this question was joking (I think!), but I believe it is a legitimate question.

Sometimes, the only exposure that many people have to a personal trainer is on one of those weight loss shows. Or maybe they’ve seen someone training athletes on the field or possibly witnessed a trainer yelling at a client in a gym setting. If you think that is how all of us are, then I want to tell you we’re not.

Trainers bring their own style to how they work with people. Some people want to be yelled at – it’s motivating for them. As long as the trainer and client agree on that approach, then it can work.

My answer to the question is, “No, I will not yell at you.” I have told people that if that is the type of trainer they need, then I am not the trainer for them.

So what can you expect from me if we work together? I will motivate you and support you. I will believe in you and give you everything you need to be successful in meeting your goals.

I also will expect you to work hard and push through any self-imposed barriers you have set. I believe we are a team – you will be successful if we both do our part.

Finally, I like to take more of a holistic perspective. Sleep, hydration, nutrition, relaxation, managing stress, and exercise are all part of the equation. All of these things can help you be the best version of yourself!

Initial Consultation

Work with Mary

When we work together, we’ll start with an initial consultation. The focus of this session is on getting to know each other and gathering essential information. This is the “personal” part of personal training!

For me to be able to help you, I need to know who you are and what you need and want from this experience. We’ll cover the following areas:

  • Review the questionnaire and other information you’ve provided. These forms give me important health info that will help me best meet your specific needs.
  • Discuss your past fitness experiences, your lifestyle, and the changes you’d like to make.
  • Talk about your health and fitness goals for the time we work together and beyond.
  • Complete a movement assessment and mini-workout.
  • Review your plan for the next several sessions.

Questions are always encouraged!
