Will You Yell at Me?
Mar 09, 2020
“Will you yell at me?”
The woman who asked me this was joking (I think!), but I do believe it is a legitimate question.
Sometimes the only exposure that many people have to a personal trainer is on one of those weight loss shows. Or maybe they’ve seen someone training athletes on the field, or possibly witnessed a trainer yelling at a client in a gym setting. If you think that is how all of us are, then I want to tell you we’re not.
Trainers bring their own style to how they work with people. Some people want to be yelled at – it’s motivating for them. As long as the trainer and client agree on that approach, then it can work.
For me, the answer to the question is, “No, I will not yell at you.” It is not who I am. My kids can attest to that – they knew that if I yelled then something serious was going down! I have told people that if that is the type of trainer they need, then I am not the trainer for them.
So what can you expect if you work with me? I will motivate and support you. I will believe in you and give you everything you need to be successful in meeting your goals.
I also will expect you to work hard and push through any self-imposed barriers you have set. I believe we are a team – you will be successful if we both do our part.
Finally, I like to take more of a holistic perspective. Sleep, hydration, nutrition, relaxation, managing stress and exercise are all part of the equation. All of these things can help you be the best version of yourself. If you think this approach can work for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
